- How does TRACE work?
- TRACE is a presale marketplace: you list a piece you want before you buy it, people bid to buy or rent it from you after you wear it, and every bid lowers what you actually pay. When a bid feels right, you lock it in, buy the piece, wear it, and ship it to your buyer.
- Can I sell something before I buy it?
- Yes — that’s exactly what TRACE is for. You list the piece before you’ve spent anything, bids come in, and you know your real cost before you commit to buying. You can also list something you already own and haven’t worn yet.
- What does it cost to list on TRACE?
- Listing on TRACE is free, and sellers keep the full bid amount. Buyers pay a 10% + $3 protection fee on top of their bid, which covers condition checks and dispute resolution.
- What’s the difference between buying and renting on TRACE?
- Buying on TRACE means the bidder owns the piece after you wear it once; renting means they borrow it for 7 days and ship it back, and you keep the piece to wear or list again. TRACE takes a 15% platform fee on rental income — selling has no seller fee.
- What if I change my mind about selling?
- Bids on TRACE are non-binding until you accept one, so you can change your mind freely — if you fall in love with the piece, don’t lock anyone in and keep it. Once you accept a bid, it’s locked for both sides.
- How do I get paid on TRACE?
- TRACE pays sellers directly to their bank through Stripe, within 3 business days of delivery.
- How does shipping work on TRACE?
- TRACE generates a prepaid shipping label for the lister’s shipment — you wear the piece, pack it, and drop it off, and tracking is shared with the bidder automatically.
- Is buying on TRACE safe?
- Every TRACE transaction is covered by buyer protection: the 10% + $3 fee funds condition verification and dispute resolution, and if what arrives doesn’t match the listing, TRACE makes it right.
- What stores does TRACE work with?
- TRACE works on 200+ retailers, including Net-a-Porter, Revolve, SSENSE, Reformation, and Nordstrom — list a piece with the Chrome extension or by pasting a product link at addtrace.com.
- Does TRACE track my browsing?
- No — the TRACE Chrome extension only activates on retailer sites to detect product pages, it doesn’t monitor general browsing, and TRACE never sells user data.
